Beyond the Horizon // Cover Reveal

Good morning everyone! :) A new post three days in a row – what's up with that, huh? Well, today I'm participating...in... A cover reveal for Jesseca Wheaton's new Christmas novella!! :D 

Beyond the Horizon is a beautiful Cinderella re-telling, set in Austria during the Second World War. I had the pleasure of beta-reading it and...well... Let's just say, that I suggest ordering yourself a copy as soon as it's available. ;)

About the Book:

Like most other bookworms, great books make their way onto my "things I'm thankful for" list every year. It's hard to choose favorites, but I went ahead and picked five books I read in 2016 and am thankful for.

1. Quest for the Beast by Sarah Holman // I'm not only thankful for book because it was a good one (though it was!!), but because I discovered this author through it. I've now read most of her shorter works and I'm looking forward to reading more!! :) 
2. They Called Her Mrs. Doc by Janette Oke // As with the aforementioned book, by reading this book I ended up falling in love with many of this author's amazing books. :) 
3. Interrupted by Rachel Coker // This is an absolutely beautiful book. I'm so glad I found it. Learning that it was written by a teen showed me that writers can begin anywhere. <3 
4. Dare by Tricia Mingerink // Similar to #1 and #2, I'm thankful that I chose to read this book in January and discovered a great series. ^.^ 
5. Anchored by Kayla Aimee // I'm thankful I read this book this year, because through it I found the authors blog. A lovely place of real life rambles, southern humor, and quick wit. ;) 

I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to another great year of reading!

I'm Thankful for...YOU!!

Hey everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to all my Americans readers. :D 

I just wanted to pop in this evening to say that I'm thankful for each and every one of you. I mean, you take time to read what I write. That's awesome, y'all!! *hugs* 

As of this morning, I now have 30 followers through GFC and 20 email subscribers – that's a lot!! (Okay, so, I know by the emails that some of those are duplicates...but still. XD) I appreciate each and everyone of you. :)

12 Days of Christmas 2016 // Coming Soon!!

Hello everyone! How are you all on this lovely November day? :D 

Why am I in such great spirits, you asked? I finished a wreath order last night. So I am very happy that's over with. I even volunteered to cook dinner... XD And so aside from keeping up with the laundry (everyone around here has this strange fascination with clean clothes) and tidying up a bit (let's face it, my desk is a wreck) I have the day mostly free and will therefore be posting this (and obviously I did if you're reading it). And probably writing/scheduling some other post. ;) 

Peoples, guess what?! It's only about three weeks away!!! :D 

What am I talking about? Well, 12 Days of Christmas of course!! Last year, 6 other bloggers and I put on this fun little Christmas linkup. The way I did it then was email each of them, but didn't say anything about it here on the blog until the linkup began. This year, we're taking a slightly different route. I've been in touch with all of last year's participants and they're all in for this year too (yay!!). And it's been decided to let anyone else in on this as well. :) Read on for details and whatnot... 

What: 12 Days of Christmas is a blog linkup that I hosted here last Christmas. It runs for 12 days, beginning on the 14th and ending on Christmas Day. :) Last year, all the amazing posts ranged from Christmas songs and the stories behind them to Christmas traditions, recipes and books – and some lovely Christmas stories written by these great writers we have around here. Any and all things Christmas are welcome! :D

Hidden Gems: The Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson

Hey, everyone! I'm back with my second Melanie Dickerson review. :D If you missed Tuesday's post or you simply want more details about what's going on here, click here. 

What happens when a margrave realizes he’s fallen in love with a servant?

The Margrave of Thornbeck has to find a bride, fast. He invites ten noble-born ladies from around the country to be his guests at Thornbeck Castle for two weeks, a time to test these ladies and reveal their true character.

Avelina is only responsible for two things: making sure her deception goes undetected and avoiding being selected as the margrave’s bride. Since the latter seems unlikely, she concentrates on not getting caught. No one must know she is merely a maidservant, sent by the Earl of Plimmwald to stand in for his daughter, Dorothea.

Despite Avelina’s best attempts at diverting attention from herself, the margrave has taken notice. And try as she might, she can’t deny her own growing feelings. But something else is afoot in the castle. Something sinister that could have far worse—far deadlier—consequences. Will Avelina be able to stop the evil plot? And at what cost?

My Review. 

Wow. Just as the lovely cover implies, this was a beautiful book. I loved the storyline of "she's-beneath-him-and-not-good-enough-he's-the-margrave-she's-a-servant-girl", etc., etc. Ahh! It was wonderful!! :D 

Avelina was a really sweet character. Not perfect, and she did some deceitful things that I don't believe she would have done under normal circumstances, but she was lovable. :) She offen struggled with being 'good enough' and, ahhh! *clutches heart* How she realized that in Christ was would always be 'enough'... Amazing. <3 

I have to say that, originally, I did not like Lord Thornbeck. Especially in book one. He was so gruff and rude!! Thankfully, he changed. Softened up some. Showed his good side. And I was able to enjoy his character too. ^_^ (Sidenote here – the wolves. That whole like *flaps hands* chapter was. so. like. amazing. gah.) 

I also liked the 'minor storyline' of his limp. Not overpowering with the rest of the stuff going on, but still there. And I loved how that turned out too...hehe. ;) 

All the side characters were amazing too!! Odette and Jorgen from book one, Lady Magdalen (such a sweet heart!! <3), Avelina's siblings, and even the King! (Though his part was extremely minor... XD) 

As far as 'warnings' go, there is one thing I didn't agree with. There is mention of an unmarried couple who slept together there at the castle. (This took place previously. Both are dead at the time of the book .) It's mentioned that it's wrong because of the lack of social status of one of the people, but it's never clarified that it's morally wrong. I honestly don't think Mrs. Dickerson intended to insinuate that it's 'okay', so I was able to overlook it. 

Overall, 4.5 stars!! 

I'm really looking forward to reading book three, The Noble Servant, in May of 2017. (Psst! It's about Lady Magdalen! :D)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a great week so far. :) Remember a couple weeks ago when I posted reviews of The Blades of Acktar fantasy series? Well, I'm back with more reviews in participation with Shantelle's Hidden Gems link-up!!! :D

My Review. 

*happy sigh* Ahhh, this is such an amazing book – with a delightful and satisfying ending!! :) I had heard a lot of good about Melanie Dickerson's novels, but I hadn't tried one until last month. Everyone was so right! Her books (so far, anyways) are AMAZING. So sweet and lovely!! :D This was my first, I've read one since it, and I can't wait to read more! :) 

I think of this book as a sort of different twist on the classic tale of 'Robin Hood'. I haven't read Robin Hood, but I know the general storyline (stealing from the rich and giving to the poor and all that). And with Odette as the talented, girl poacher, it's got a lot of similarities. 

Odette and Jorgen were both such amazing characters. They both have such a heart for the orphans of Thornbeck!! <3 <3 Odette is so sweet and charming, a lovable girl-MC. And then Jorgen is just...the best. His backstory brought me to tears...I'm serious. *tissues* 

Odette's Uncle Rutger and then this Mathis-Papendorp-dude were two that I didn't particularly care for. I didn't mind Rutger at first, but then....no. (I totally saw *that* coming, by the way... B-)) They were great-bad-characters though. XD

Anna, Jorgen's mother, and Katharine were all awesome characters! I really enjoyed each of their additions to the story. :) 

Lastly, I can't think of any warnings to give for this book. There is romance (duh.), but it's all clean, appropriate, and adorable. ^_^ 

Five stars, all the way!! :D

Leaves, Pumpkins, and Candy Corn // October Recap

Well, it's that time of month again. Today is November. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN LIKE WHAT?! *ahem* 

I love writing and reading these monthly recaps, but...is it just me or are they coming a bit too frequently? (This is where you say "yes, Faith. Yes, they are." And we devise a way to slow time. Mwahahaha.) 

But seeing as how it is this time again, let's move on before this post becomes a book. ;)

This is the lovely typewriter notebook I got a Books-A-Million. It's so purty!! :)

Um, so, writing suffered terribly this month. School was overwhelming and I did a lot of reading and *some* blogging, but other than that...? I have no excuse. 

My total word count rolled in at 4,257, in seven different projects. ;) However, War Tears can only claim 2,566 of that. Finishing by Christmas isn't looking so well. :P

First off, THIS. 

I have now saw every episode of the TV show When Calls the Heart and love it dearly. :) That season three finale though...I need more. Please, Hallmark? 

On the music note (pun *totally* intended), I'm flailing over Casting Crowns newest CD. 

I've played it on repeat, much to the annoyance of certain household members. *coughs* *glances at The Kid*

My goals for October were... 

>> Read five books.              Check! 

>> Beta-read two books.             Um, well, I finished one. XP

>> Finish the remaining short-story which is for this contest.      Actually, no. I ended up skipping the contest. I do plan to finish the story someday though and share it here. :) 

>> Hit 68k in War Tears. (I want to finish it by Christmas. #shrieking)    Ha! No. I didn't even hit 65k. *sad face* 

>> Make curtains (FIANLLY).      Again, no. ACK.

Goals for November!! 

>> Read five books. 

>> Finish beta-reading the aforementioned book. 

>> Hit 68k in War Tears. (Ha. I'm overly optimistic. But. We'll see.) 

>> Survive the worst of tree harvest. (Starts today. I have 15 wreaths to make in 2 days.)
