When Calls the Heart '21 || Underrated Characters

Happy Valentines Day, lovely humans! And welcome back to the final day of the party. It's been fun and a nice way to unwind at the close of a long week...whilst contemplate other people's lives... xD

So today I'm going to talk about characters that are, in my option, underrated. I'm choosing one from each season. These are characters who a lot of others (fellow characters and viewers alike) didn't really like, and/or characters who didn't get much screentime, whose stories were never finished, who I would have liked to see more of... you get the picture.

|| Underrated Characters from Each Season

• Season One - Wyatt Weaver •

Anyone else remember him? The smart kid who walked his brothers to school and then went to work in the coal mine? He's only credited in two episodes of season 1 and one episode of season 2. I wish he would've been a recurring character. Plus Wyatt and Gem's relationship, like?!

• Season Two - Luke McCoy •

Ahh, yes, the fellow who's just moved to town and seen hanging around the mercantile discussing rolling pins with Clara. I thought they were really cute together and we don't even see him again after she goes out with him like once (he's credited in two episodes). I'm a fan of her with Jesse, but... what happened to Luke?!

• Season Three - Edith & Roy Sampson •

The estranged couple (with a baby) that were reconciled with a little help from Jack. There story was, technically, not left hanging, but do we ever find out what happened to them after the silver mine closed and the flood? Not that I remember. And, c'mon, they're cute.

• Season Four - Shane & Phillip Cantrell •

Again, they're cute. Phillip appears in 13 episodes and is often seen only as one of the school children. His father, Shane, appears in only 5 episodes and at some point is "away for work." Like...who's raising his son while he's gallivanting off to goodness knows where? Shane and Nurse Faith Carter were briefly/almost an item and that was never finished either. After Phillip left for eye surgery in the city, they're never heard from again!

• Season Five - Sofia Connelly •

Anyone remember the architect friend of Rosemary's who had a thing with Carson briefly in season 5? Yeah, me too. And I actually really liked seeing their whirlwind romance. While I understand why it couldn't have worked long time without Carson leaving the show, I would like to see a reappearance of her character.

• Season Six - Mike Hickam •

I was struggling to find someone for this season, so I decided to throw in this guy that could really have been listed on any season. Yes, Hickam. The actor's IMDb page credits him for 43 episodes of WCTH, yet what do we really know about him? He works for Lee and will do anything Rosemary asks him. Beyond that? #MoreHickamPlotsPlease

• Season Seven - Fiona Miller •

Not necessarily an underrated character... but a really fun one that I haven't got to talk about much. And I can't think of anyone else I want to talk about for season 7. xD  She arrived with the telephone in Hope Valley and has been a fun part of the show ever since. Looking forward to seeing her story continue in season 8!

*Images and collages are not mine.

And the giveaway winners are... Abby Elissa (first place) and Sawyer (second place)! Congratulations, lovelies, we'll be in touch! <3

When Calls the Heart '21 || Guest Post: Pros & Cons of Lucas & Nathan

Yo fam!

Today we have a guest post from my When Calls the Heart buddy... talking about the elephant in the room, the lingering love triangle.

!! Disclaimer: The following article contains opinions that are not necessarily approved or endorsed by this blog. Stories by Firefly cannot and does not recommend joining #TeamLucas but leaves the final decision in the capable mind of the reader. Proceed with caution. !!

You can click over to Rebekah's blog here to read my pros and cons for each guy. ;)

|| Guest post w/ RebekahAshleigh

If you’re keeping up with When Calls the Heart you know that there is a love triangle going on. Who will Elizabeth fall in love with? Lucas the saloon owner or Nathan the Mountie??

I’m Team Lucas all the way! Before I ever “met” either guy I was not wanting Lucas actually. I mean he’s a saloon owner and I thought Nathan was better looking. I don’t think that anymore! You can’t tell that kind of thing from a picture, you have to see them in action to decide for yourself. ;)

Okay, here are my pros and cons for each guy!

Nathan Grant

-pros-

1. He is caring.

2. He is good with little Jack. (I mean there hasn’t been that many interactions, but one specifically stands out.) He also really cares for his niece.

3. He does a good job of protecting the people of Hope Valley.

-cons-

1. Nathan is slightly boring. He likes Elizabeth but won’t make any moves, but he gets mad when Lucas asks her out? Like, don’t be mad Nathan, if you want Elizabeth you have to try.

2 .Nathan has a very obnoxious niece named Allie. I am sorry, I really like the story of Nathan raising his niece I just can’t stand Allie... (I can only hope she gets better in this new season)

3. I just don’t think he’s good for Elizabeth. I mean Nathan is caring but yeah, I don’t think Elizabeth should go for another Mountie…

Lucas Bouchard

-pros-

1.Lucas is very romantic. (and good looking. ;))

2. He is supportive of Elizabeth’s writing.

3. He is helping bring progress to Hope Valley.

-cons-

1. Lucas does have a bit of a past, and it did catch up with him and put Elizabeth in danger. But it all worked out. Just because someone doesn’t have a great past doesn’t mean they are a bad person.

2. Some people think he’s trying to buy Elizabeth’s love. He’s not he is just like me and has the gift of giving. Anyways, Jack was also really romantic and I like that Lucas is too.

3. At one point he was a bit too supportive of Elizabeth’s writing and did something he should’ve had Elizabeth’s permission for, but it all worked out and she forgave him.

When Calls the Heart '21 || Season Eight Collaboration

Happy Friday, lovelies!

And welcome to the unofficial fifth annual When Calls the Heart blog party, hosted by yours truly and my friend, Rebekah. It's a fun thing we do every Valentines week/weekend, as much for our own enjoyment as sharing with y'all. :)

For day one, we wrote a collab/convo about our speculations for the new season, which premieres in just over a week!

|| Collab w/ RebekahAshleigh

Rebekah: Welcome to the When Calls the Heart blog party!

Faith: Woot, woot! Fifth year in a row :D

R: I can’t believe this is our fifth year doing this!

F: Me either! We must be getting old…

R: Haha, I know right?

F: But you know what the best part about another year of this party is? Another season of our beloved series. ;)

R: Yes! I am so excited to see where season 8 goes!

Only a week left until it premiers!

F: *tosses confetti* I was thinking about this last night and trying to remember if the new season was season 7 or 8. (I always combine 6 and 7 in my mind for some reason… :P)  But wow, 8 years of Hope Valley!

R: Yeah, 8 years! It’s hard to believe there’s been that many seasons already.

F: What would you say you are most looking forward to about season 8? Or do I have to ask? ;)

R: I am really looking forward to Elizabeth picking a guy. ;) A certain saloon owner would be nice. ;)

F: Saloon owner, you say? I’m sorry, my dear, you must be mistaken about the fellow’s occupation… He’s a mountie. ;)

R: No, no...he is definitely not a Mountie. ;) I do like Nathan, but not for Elizabeth!

F: *laughing* okay, I tried… We’ll never agree on this one… I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

R: Haha! I think the only Hope Valley couple we actually have agreed on is Lee and Rosemary.

F: Yes, true… And Jesse and Clara. But we never did agree on a suitor for Abigail.

R: How could I forget Jesse and Clara! They’re a cute couple.

Yes, we never could agree on Abigail’s love life…. (although Frank was great!)

F: I hope to see more of their relationship growth and such in season 8! Wait… who’s Frank again? .... Okay, okay, I’m kidding. xD

R: I do too!!

Faith, you’re killing me here! ;D But Abigail’s not around anymore so I suppose it doesn’t matter too much anymore…

F: Hehehe… Okay, since Abigail is no longer on the show, I guess I can drop the Frank thing… Bill is still around, so I’m pleased with that. ;)

R: Well, since Frank and Abigail are gone I don’t really mind Bill being around still. ;)

F: I’ve always thought Bill was an interesting character. Shady enough to keep me guessing (and wondering if he was actually a bad guy sometimes), but I always end up liking him. I especially liked his relationship with Jack.

R: Exactly! Like I always go between liking Bill and disliking him!

But yes! I really liked his relationship with Jack too.

I really like how Bill looks out for Elizabeth and baby Jack. <3

F: Yes! And I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far of his relationship with Nathan, how especially in most recent episode they were teasing each other a bit and such.

Awwww, yes. <3 Proof that Bill does have a heart.

R: Oh yeah, I had kinda forgotten about Bill’s relationship with Nathan…

Bill doesn’t seem to really be a fan of Lucas though…

F: I don’t remember a lot from season 7 (I need to re-watch next week before the new season starts airing!) but I’m specifically remembering the scene before Bill and Nathan leave for the *spoiler* prisoner transfer that ended in that other Mountie getting killed *spoiler* and Bill was like “yes, we’re leaving now. Get your stuff, let’s go!” And Nathan’s just like, “okay, fine.” xD

Hmmm… maybe Bill knows something about Lucas that we don’t…? ;)

R: (I should do that too!)

Oh right, I do remember that. (I mean how could I forget with that leading to the whole ending of the season?!)

Yeah, I don’t know about that. ;)

F: Right?! (That hug though… *heart eyes*)

Hehehe… Maybe he’s just being cautious because he’s looking out for Elizabeth… we’ll see. :P

Okay, now that we’re thoroughly sidetracked… any other expectations/speculations about season 8??

R: Yes...the hug...I feel like the hug though was just because of the situation... because I mean there was that sweet scene with Lucas shortly before… ;)

Haha, right?! Well, I really hope Lee and Rosemary have a baby or adopt a kid. Since about season 6 I think it’s sort of briefly been in there but nothing has happened.

F: Maybe… but it was still super sweet. Ahh, yes, Lucas the charmer… how could I forget? ;)

Oh, I’d forgotten about that! Yes, I would definitely like to see some progression in that possibly-forgotten side-plot. I truly would love to see them adopt a child. I love adoption plots and I think they’d be great parents. <3

R: Okay, it was kinda sweet. ;) But the look on Lucas’s face about broke my heart when he saw Elizabeth hug Nathan! (okay, I’m being slightly dramatic. ;))

It would be so sweet for them to adopt, the two of them would be amazing parents!!

F: Poor guy… I’m not even being sarcastic this time—either way this goes, one of the guys will get hurt… :’(

Right?! Plus I always enjoy when they bring in characters from When Hope Calls to WCTH and the other way around. (Speaking of which, did WHC ever get confirmed for a second season?)

R: I know! Like I want Elizabeth to pick a guy, but I’ll feel bad for the other guy no matter which one it is.

I love it when they do that too! When Hope Calls has such a fun cast and I love it when they show up in When Calls the Heart. (No, I never heard anything about a season 2 of WHC. I hope they decide to do one though because I was really enjoying that show!)

F: I know, right? Reason #1 that I’m typically not a fan of love triangles. All the accompanying drama being a close #2. But still, I hope the love triangle gets settled in the new season, one way or another. I don’t like lingering unanswered questions… :P

(I wish they would!)

R: Exactly!

I feel like the love triangle will get resolved towards the end of the season, because you know how they like to draw things out… ;)

F: Don’t I know it! ;)  Yeah, I think it probably will be. Especially after seeing the video *sorta spoiler* of Elizabeth taking off her wedding band. I’m thinking that’ll happen further into the season maybe before she actually “picks” someone.

R: Oh my goodness! Yes! That video is both sweet and kinda sad.

Yeah, probably…

F: It definitely shows the bittersweetness of a changing season of life… I’m excited to see what it signifies for a future/growing relationship for her.

Another thing I’m curious to see in season 8 is how the writers take Faith and Carson’s relationship. I’m struggling to remember where they were with things when season 7 ended. I haven’t always been a total fan of their relationship (sometimes I think he’s too old for her xD), but I’m interested to see how that plays out.

R: For sure! <3

Yes, I’m also excited to see where things go with Carson and Faith. I cannot remember where season 7 left things with them. I remember them saying how they felt about each other and kissing, but I think that was earlier on.

I like them together, but yeah, sometimes it does seem like he’s too old for her.

Speaking of relationships, I’m excited to see where season 8 goes with Jesse and Claras as newlyweds!

F: Yes, I remember that too, but I don’t recall whether or not anything specific happened after that. I know Carson is in that scene with the Elizabeth/Nathan hug, but I don’t remember when we last see Faith. I really do need to rewatch. ;)

Agreed! They’re so cute. <3

R: Right, Carson was in that scene, but yeah, I cannot remember about Faith. I totally need to rewatch season 7 as well. ;)

I think it would be sweet to see Clara and Jesse have a baby, but I feel like that would be too soon for this season since they just got married in the middle of season 7.

F: I was just thinking it would be cute for them to be pregnant in the new season! But yeah, I don’t know if the writers will want for that to happen so soon. They let Elizabeth have a baby right away though… ;P

R: That would be so cute!

True, so there is hope! ;)

F: As long as Jesse doesn’t have to die in order for it to happen…

R: Right! I don’t want any more deaths to happen!!

F: No character deaths this season, please!

The only other expectation I have for the new season is that I hope to see storylines with Fiona! She’s a fun character.

R: Oh yes! Fiona is a really fun character. I hope we get to know her more in the new season. :)

F: We could seriously talk about WCTH for days on end. ;)  Anything else to add?

R: We definitely could! ;)

Nothing else comes to mind at the moment, although I’m sure I’ll think of more stuff later. ;D

F: Haha, right? I’ll think of something as soon as I sign off… xD  This has been so much fun!

R: Same here. ;)

Yes, it has been lots of fun!

F: Until next time, lovely friend! *waves*

R: Goodbye! <3

WCTH Party 2020 ~ Spin-Off Show: When Hope Calls

Happy Sunday, lovely humans! Today's the last day of the party, so giveaway winners will be announced at the end of the post. But first, we're going to talk about When Calls the Heart's spinoff series—When Hope Calls. And be sure to check out Rebekah's post!

|| When Hope Calls

In the WCTH Christmas special from 2019, viewers meet two sisters, Grace and Lillian, and their band of orphans. The sisters are planning to start a orphanage in nearby Brookfield. Other details come to light in the WCTH episode—the sisters themselves were orphaned and, as a result, separated at a young age, an occurrence which gives them a deep compassion for other orphans and siblings.

I adored this show, y'all. It reminded me greatly of the Love Comes Softly movie series. It's a bit of a feel-good show—not in the way that everything is perfect, but that it all works out for the best and most of the characters are sweet and kind individuals. The show does have it's own villains and riffraff, but overall, justice prevails.

The show has many connections to WCTH, while still being its own separate show. Lee and Rosemary, as well as Mountie Nathan Grant, make appearances.

Grace and Lillian, aided by their housekeeper Eleanor, provide a home for six orphaned children, ranging in age. Each of the kids come from different backgrounds and get their own stories and screen time within the show. WHC also hosts a myriad of townspeople, completing a full and fun cast of characters, with plenty of stories to tell.

Also within the series, blossoming love stories are abundant. But isn't that kinda typical of Hallmark? ;)

Grace, the younger of the sisters, is unofficially seeing Chuck Stewart, the town's veterinarian. Due to events that happened many years prior, Chuck's family and Lillian's adoptive family weren't exactly best of friends. This fact, catalyzed by Chuck's mother, Tess, causes issues for the two.

Meanwhile, Lillian and Mountie Gabriel Kinslow seem to have a mutual affection for one another. When a possible bank robber is identified, Gabriel goes out of his way to insure that Lillian, her sister, and the orphans are safe.

Overall, it's a really sweet series. Maybe not a top favorite, but definitely one I'll watch again. And I so hope it gets a second season! <3

WCTH Party 2020 ~ Series Overview pt.2

Welcome back to day three, friends! I'm sharing the second half of my series overview, and you can find Rebekah's post here! There will be spoilers, so beware. ;)

|| Season Four

Favorite part of season four? The long overdue proposal. xD I was glad that Jack and Elizabeth finally got engaged, especially since we know he's been carrying around an engagement ring since the end of season two. (Talk about a man who takes his time...ahem.)

Other than that, there's lots of story material with the railroad and the possibility of the railroad coming to town. Elizabeth is fired as teacher, during a Gowen-instigated scandal. Dr. Carson Shepherd comes to town. Jack is off to an assignment in the Northern Territories. We get to meet a young friend of Jack's (Doug! <3), who's afterwards killed in the line of duty.

Most of the favorite characters are present, and each have their own stories to tell—Rosemary and Lee, Bill Avery, Abigail Stanton and Cody, Frank Hogan, and Henry Gowen. Overall, it's a pretty great season.

|| Season Five

Ummm....what?  << my original thoughts

To be honest, I wasn't really thrilled with season five. It was okay. I still watched it. But I felt like nothing really happened. Without Jack and Elizabeth's wedding occurring mid-season, and the death of Hope Valley's hero near the end of the season (*SOB*), there really would have been nothing to give this season any sort of substance.

Elizabeth's sister, Julie, visits. Carson has a new romance. A.J. Foster returns. Frank and Abigail break-up. And others. But it's all small little happenings that are quickly resolved or don't even take up much screen time, and that weren't really (in my opinion) enough to build a whole season on. There's no major, driving purpose to the whole thing. Without the wedding and death to build on, it would've been worse.

But yeah. I still watched. xD  As horrid as it sounds, the final/death episode might've been the strongest of the whole season...

|| Season Six

Ahhhhaaa. I like this. After all the sadness and not-that-great-ness of season five (and parts of S4), season six felt like a much-needed attempt at redemption. To me, it felt much more like the earlier seasons and less like the lame and/or rather dramatic S4 and S5. ;)

Why? Things are happening. Carson and Faith begin a relationship. Jesse and Clara are getting serious about a life together. Rosemary and Lee are afraid they can't have kids. The telephone comes to town. Elizabeth is juggling teaching and raising Baby Jack. And new faces are showing up in town—the telephone operator girl who's name I can never remember, Lucas Bouchard, and the Mountie Nathan Grant and his niece.

Yes, there's a new Mountie in town—something we all knew was inevitably coming, whether we're over Jack or not. And, ya know, I kinda like him. He's raising his niece, which is kinda adorable—and which has him frequently in contact with Allie's teacher, the widowed Ms. Elizabeth Thornton. How ironic... *wink*

And as for Lucas, I'm still not sure what to make of him. I'm still convinced he's some kind of criminal...but I do have a history of not trusting new characters, soooo. xD

During the airing of S6, it was put on hold for like two months when Abigail's character had to be cut and parts re-worked. Although I did love her character, the cast still remains strong and entertaining.

WCTH Party 2020 ~ Guest Post: Current Couples

Happy Valentine’s Day! I am excited to be here guest posting on Faith’s blog today. I am talking about the couples from When Calls the Heart here and Faith is doing the same thing over on my blog. :)

|| Guest Post by RebekahAshleigh

Jesse and Clara

Jesse and Clara are a pretty sweet couple. I’ll admit, I haven’t always been a fan of them. Clara has gotten on my nerves more then once, then Jesse started frustrating me more then once as well. They’ve had some things to work through in their relationship, but I am excited to see them together in season 7. They got engaged at the end of season 6, so I’m hoping for a wedding!

Carson and Faith

The doctor and the nurse! I’ve been in favor of this relationship for quite some time. I was excited when Carson and Faith decided to start having a relationship. They kept it hidden for awhile because they didn’t want to have all the pressure from everyone, but now the town knows. I’m hoping to see some progression.
Carson once had a love interest for like two episodes as did Faith. I’m hoping these two stick together though and that their story isn’t dropped.

Lee and Rosemary

Lee and Rosemary are perfect for each other! They are so fun and sweet! I’ve liked Lee from the beginning. Rosemary, not so much, but she definitely grew on me and I can’t imagine the show without her. When Calls the Heart wouldn’t have the same charm without these two! I really hope they have a baby in season 7! Whether they get pregnant or adopt, I hope they have a child! They would make such great parents. It’s so cute to see them with baby Jack.
Lee and Rosemary are always there for everyone and it’s so sweet to see how much they are invested in their friends lives. :)

Elizabeth and Nathan OR Lucas?????

Nathan or Lucas? The answer to who Elizabeth will choose remains a mystery. (Or maybe Jack really didn’t die, and…okay, no, unfortunately that’s not the case.)
I won’t say too much here about the two new men in Hope Valley because I have a post planned for that. There’s pros and cons to both though. Nathan is a Mountie and while he’s a nice guy Elizabeth may have a hard time giving her heart to another Mountie. Lucas on the other hand has a bit of a past and Elizabeth got caught up in some not so great stuff because of him. Nathan is kind though, but so is Lucas. It’s a toss up for sure! ;)

So there you have it! My thoughts on these Hope Valley couples! Who’s your favorite couple?

WCTH Party 2020 ~ Series Overview pt.1

Good morning, fellow humans, and welcome to the When Calls the Heart blog party. This is a little get-together in the blogging realm for fans of the Hallmark TV show, that RebekahAshleigh and I have been collaborating on for the past few years.

This year, the party will run over the weekend (Thursday-Sunday), instead of the usual six day week. There's lots of fun posts and a giveaway, so join us this Valentines Weekend! Today, I'm doing a series overview, considering and reviewing the show by season, and you can find Rebekah's post here. :)

|| Season One

Ahh, yes, season one—the gleaming intro. Or was it?

Season One is, in my opinion, the realest of the show, in that it shows the harsh realities of frontier life around the turn of the twentieth century. It's a raw and vulnerable look at a town destroyed by disaster, riddled with grief, but unified in their pursuit to rebuild their lives and their hope for the benefit of the next generation.

Gleaming? No. But hopeful and good and lovely? Most definitely.

I loved seeing all the strong, female characters in the first season. I loved the chemistry and sarcastic jabs between disgruntled new Mountie Jack and determined city girl schoolteacher Elizabeth.

(Also, was anyone else a total fan of Bill and Abigail before they—rather quickly, actually—crashed and burnt? #willneverletthisgo )

|| Season Two

Season Two took a bit of a turn from where the series began. While there's plenty going on in Hope Valley (then, Coal Valley) and a continuation of the widows' story brings closure to the coal mine disaster plot, a whole other side to the saga comes into play—Elizabeth's previous uptown life in Hamilton.

I can't even say that I didn't like the Hamilton episodes, although the rapid change from S1 took me by surprise initially. The Charles drama though? nope. Not doing anything for me. Get rid of him, please and thank you. Jack is the man.

I also really didn't like Rosemary in the second season. LIKE AT ALL. I can now appreciate her when rewatching these earlier shows when she first showed up. But the first time? Drove.me.bonkers.

Kinda partial to Julie and Tom's story showcased in this season, too, come to think of it. Apparently I have an affinity for relationships that are destined to fail. #whoops

|| Season Three

I adored Season Three, y'all. Adored. It had the darling little town feel of S1, with even more characters to follow and stories to watch unfold. A new business is starting, offering new jobs and opportunities for the town and it's occupants.

The thing that comes to mind as something I didn't like about S3 is, uh... Frank. Yes, the pastor. The one who's been forgiven for being a criminal, and served his time, and is now doing good and living life as he should—I get it. I just don't like him. Never have, never could. I can't even really explain it, other than he irks me. :P

Lee and Rosemary are the total bomb. I loved seeing their love story flow and build and grow, from their first meeting to when she performed for him, when he ganged up with Molly to make her jealous, when they beat Gowen at his own game, all the little moments all the way up to the wedding. <3

When Calls the Heart || Best Moments + Giveaway Winners

Since I've already did three favorite gals, three favorites guys, and five underrated characters, I decided to choose a favorite moment from each season for my final post. Maybe not my top favorites, but a favorite. I tried to pick some that don't get as much attention, too. xD

Stay tuned to the end to discover the giveaway winners—and be sure to check out Rebekah's post of the day!

{ Season One }

In Lost & Found, when Jack and Elizabeth are officially introduced...and he realizes who her father is and (possibly) why he was sent to Coal Valley instead of Cape Fullerton—the posting he wanted. He's fit to be tied, to say the least, and spouts off something about how the wealth shipping tycoon's daughter won't last a week in a mining town. Elizabeth gives the tongue lashing right back. It's quite amusing... ;)

{ Season Two }

Season Two had it's good moments, but it wasn't a favorite of mine—not a fan of the Nora/Bill drama, for one thing. Aside from the trial, though, one of my favorite scenes took place in Hamilton. Elizabeth is trying to console Julie after her and Tom's...uh, escapade that turned into a car crash.

Julie: Father’s forbidden me to see Tom ever again. And I’ll die if I don’t see him! I’ll wither away and die.
Elizabeth: You won’t die.
Julie: Then I’ll wither.

{ Season Three }

Season Three had lots of sweet and humorous Lee and Rosemary moments. One of my favorites was when they were talking about Rosemary accepting the offer of a several film contract with motion picture (movie) producer that was in town. It wouldn't take forever, but Lee knew it was unlikely she'd return to Hope Valley afterwards if she did leave with the production crew.

Rosemary: You’re not going to make this easy, are you?
Lee: Perhaps the best I can do right now is not make it any harder.

{ Season Four }

In the fourth season of the show, Elizabeth and Jack join forces to coach and oversee a baseball game for the schoolchildren. The day of the big game, Elizabeth, Jack, and Abigail get into an argument about the game, whether or not Cody was safe. Umpire Bill steps in to make a call and dares anyone to argue with it. Quite the humorous scene, I'd say. xD

{ Season Five }

Near the beginning of the season, Abigail and Bill travel out of town to testify at Henry Gowen's trial—on opposing sides. Bill (Sheriff of Hope Valley, with Jack away) places Lee in charge of things while he's gone. Of course, this would be when a "tonic" salesman shows up in town, much to Carson's disgruntlement and irritation. The scene where Lee arrested Carson—or, rather, Carson put himself in jail—was absolutely fabulous.

When Calls the Heart || Fav Male Leads

Happy discounted chocolate and flowers day, friends!

(Oh, do we not celebrate that? Because we really should...just saying...)  This morning, I'm going to ramble about my favorite guys from When Calls the Heart, since I already covered the gals on Tuesday.

{ Lee Coulter }

Owner and operator of Coulter enterprises, a lumber mill/company based in Hope Valley. Husband to actress Rosemary Leveaux Coulter. All around epic dude. Famous for his plaid pants.

When Lee first appeared in town, in the midst of the trial to determine if the mining company was at fault in the cave-in, I was suspicious that he was a swindler. Seriously, though. Dude rides up on a motorcycle and immediately catches Rosemary's eye? Doesn't necessarily say much for his character. (Sorry, Jack.) As it turns out though, Lee is a great fellow and his business the main source of economy for the town.

{ Jack Thornton }

Constable Jack Thornton of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police. Husband to schoolteacher Elizabeth Thatcher. Son of a Mountie and a schoolteacher. Man in the red coat, the town's protector. Fighting the good fight.

Ah, yes. The dude that rides in on episode one and breaks up a disagreement between the workers and the bosses of the coal mine. He appears in the trademark jacket and hat, prompting a young student to ask who it is. To which, Elizabeth responds "that's a Mountie." Quite awestuck, now that I think about it. Which might be fitting... ;)

{ Bill Avery }

Former Constable Bill Avery, now a private investigator and undercover detective. Co-owner of Abigail's Cafe, but only works there (meaning, cook and threaten customers with a rolling pin) when absolutely necessary. Has no family in town since his ex-wife disappeared.

I almost included Bill in my underrated characters list, because he seems to get a lot of dislike. No, he's not perfect, but he's a pretty good fellow. His sarcasm and dry humor is superb. And who doesn't appreciate a good ol' mystery-chaser? (Basically, don't hate on the guy. Because, I mean, what if he gets a complex?)

{ Giveaway }

Today's the last day to enter to win one of these When Calls the Heart themed bundles! The giveaway closes at midnight and the winners will be announced in tomorrow's posts. :)

When Calls the Heart || Collaboration with RebekahAshleigh

Good morning, all, and happy Valentine's Day! <3 Rebekah and I have a special treat for y'all today—a collaboration of the two of us discussing our speculations for what Season Six will bring to Hope Valley. Read on and then chime-in in the comments!

Faith: *waves* hey, girlie :)

Rebekah: *waves back* Hello Faith! :D

F: How are you today? Having fun with the party?

R: I’m doing great! The party has been a blast so far! Are you having fun? ;)

F: EEPPS, yes, it’s always so much fun!

R: I’m so glad we made this an annual thing!!! :D

F: Yup! I’m glad I discovered When Calls the Heart a couple years back...thanks to you. ;)

R: I’m so glad I discovered it as well. And of course I had to try and get you to watch it. ;) I’m so happy that you fell in love with it and we can talk all about it together! <3 :)

F: A friend in the fandom is always nice to have! Speaking of which, I suppose we should get down to business. So...what’s your #1 speculation for season 6?

R: Totally! ;D
Well, I would have said Elizabeth’s baby, but that’s already happened. ;) So, I’m not even that sure. I’m definitely speculating that we’ll be seeing more of the other characters now that the main focus isn’t on Jack and Elizabeth…
What about you?

F: Haha, yup! Although, I guess that’s technically part of season 6, just wasn’t aired with the season. Yes, I think so too! Which will be nice, if it wasn’t for *cough* that *cough* reason.
Hmm...well, I want there to be a Coulter baby, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen or not… ;) I’m hoping for some developments in Jesse and Clara’s relationship too. They’ve been back-and-forth for awhile it seems like, but they were “steadier” in the Christmas special.

R: True. ;)
Don’t make me cry, Faith! ;) that was so awful though, but it will be great seeing more of everyone else.
I’d love for there to be a Coulter baby!!! That would be so adorable and Lee and Rosemary would make such great parents! Yeah, I’m unsure if that will happen, but us Hearties can hope. ;) Some more developments in Jesse and Clara’s relationship would be nice. The season 6 preview kinda hinted towards that…
I also wonder about Abigail’s love life now that Frank is no longer around…

F: Aww, here you go! *passes tissues and heart-shaped chocolates*
I know, right?! Especially after the classic Rosemary moment in Season 3 (“Babies are so...sticky.”), it would be so precious to see them as parents. <3 Yup, the Hearties will always cling to hope… Yes, it did! I also saw a video on YouTube the other day that suggested something about a “new role” or “new season” for Rosemary. I’m not crossing my fingers that it’s motherhood, but you never know, I suppose! And I don’t remember the source of that video, so it may not have been reliable. Fun to consider though. ;)
Oh, good point! Wonder if she’ll get a new love interest… Although, you know me...I’m still hoping for Abigail and Bill to get back together… *wink*

R: *wipes away tears and nibbles on Hearties chocolate*) I’ll be okay. *sniff* *wink*
Goodness yes!! That scene was golden!! (and the mention of diapers. ;) *laughs*) They are just the cutest couple. They’d be such great parents. Wait, really?!?! Oh dear, well let’s just hope that it was somewhat reliable. Hehe. ;) Definitely fun to consider! We mustn’t get our hope too high though. =)
Oh, I never considered the possibility of a new love interest...Hmmm… Yes, I was pretty sure you’d bring up Bill. I know you well, Faith. ;) I do like Bill, but Frank and Abigail were one of my favorite couples! Actually come to think of it, out of my three favorite couples only one is left...

F: *winks*
Yes!! I’ll have to look that video up and, if I can find it, send it your way. Haha, yes! Hearties learn the hard way about not getting their hopes up… :P
*laughs* Sorry, couldn’t help it. ;) Yes, you do know me too well. Oh goodness, I hadn’t realized that! Well, I suppose it’s the same for me, now that I think about it… Lee and Rosemary better stay together...and healthy! ;)

R: Oh, thanks! :)
For sure….
Hehe. ;D I know! The writers are tearing apart our favorite couples. Yes!! Nothing must happen to Lee and Rosemary.
So, Faith, what are your thoughts on the two new guys who are coming to Hope Valley?

F: They’d better stay together until they’re old and grey...or until we are...or whatever... xD
Ooohh, good one. I knew we’d get to this eventually. Well, I saw on (you guessed it) another maybe-gossip video that the new Mountie may become a love interest for Elizabeth in the future. I’m...not sure how I feel about that. I’m not saying she should stay single forever, but the Hearties—and all of Hope Valley—need time to grieve! Also, Jack was much better looking...I’m just saying… *wink*
But back to my thoughts… I’m not sure. I think it’ll be fun to have new characters on the show, with different personalities to figure out and backgrounds to discover. The new Mountie looks like a fun guy, and the saloon owner/gambler/whoever-he-is looks a tad suspicious, so I’m wondering where that will go. ;) How about you?

R: *laughs* For sure!!
Hmmm...I think I’d be okay with the new Mountie becoming a love interest for Elizabeth in the future...but I’m with you, everyone needs some time to grieve! Even though it has been several months, that’s not really enough time for Elizabeth to move on. I mean, she’s been in love with Jack for so long. Hehe. *wink* Well, yes, I agree, Jack is better looking, but the new Mountie is better looking then the saloon guy. ;)
I think if Elizabeth is to fall for one of the guys it should be the Mountie, but I’m good with her just being friends with guys for now. ;) The saloon owner/gambler guy does look suspicious. I saw somewhere what both of the new guys names are, but I can’t remember. ;) I’m really not sure what to think of this part of the season 6 storyline…

F: Yes, I’d like some time before anything develops in that department. I know! And they were, like, so perfect together. Haha, this is true… ;)
Oh, me too! The saloon guy looks creepy—and probably older than her? Not sure, just speculating. ;P I wonder if he’ll have some sort of redemption theme or past. Kind of like Frank’s, but different. Just a thought. :) Hmmm...is the Mountie’s name Nathan? That sounds right, for some reason.

R: They were one of the sweetest couples ever! <3
Yeah, he does look a bit on the creepy side….I knew there was something else that I wasn’t sure about, but yeah, now that you mention it he does look older. Oh maybe, good point! Although the Mountie seem a bit mysterious too… They both kinda do. ;)
Nathan does sound right! We need to try and look up what their names are. ;)
Another thing I’m excited for about season 6 is Baby Jack! I can’t wait to see Elizabeth as a mother! She’ll be a great one. She’s amazing with the school children.

F: Glad you mentioned that, haha. I wasn’t sure if I was just assuming everyone was suspicious because they often turn out to be, or if they really are. xD
Yes, we should. So we can talk about them without codes. “Saloon guy.” “New Mountie.” Haha!
Oh, definitely! It’ll be sweet to see a baby on the show! Other than the twins in Season 1 and Edith’s baby in Season 3, has there been any other infants on WCTH?

R: Hehe, nope, it’s not just you! ;) Although new people on the show tend to be hiding something, so we definitely have the right to be suspicious. ;)
*laughs* That should be our goal, to find out what “Saloon guy” and “New Mountie” real names are. ;D We don’t have much longer though until we get to “meet” them.
It will be so fun! No, actually. I think those were the only two times that there were babies in When Calls the Heart. The twins in season 1 were just in the very end of the episode and Edith and her baby weren’t in many episodes. So this should really be fun!

F: Valid point, my dear. xD
Yes, I know!! I’m hyped to see what they do with season 6. In the Facebook live with Erin Krakow, Daniel Lissing, and Lori Loughlin after the startling conclusion of Season 5, they promised Season 6 to be fabulous. So...I’m hoping for good things. :D
I know! It’ll be so cute. ^_^

R: Same here! I cannot wait to see all that happens! Oh, that’s right! I had forgotten that they said that. =) I think we can definitely expect this to be another great season even though there will be some major changes. :)

F: Yep! I’m really curious to see how that will look and what it’ll be like to have a different Mountie in town. There should be some sweet moments too though!

R: I think there will definitely be a different feel to this season, but I’m quite excited to find out what will happen! Yes, I’m sure there will be plenty of sweet moments! <3

F: Talking about this show with you and sharing our thoughts on the upcoming season has been so much fun!

R: It really had been! I’ve enjoyed it so much!

F: Until next time, Heartie fans! *waves to the readers*

R: Yes, until next time, fellow fans! *waves* Goodbye! :)

do you have any speculations for the new season? do you agree with ours?
