When Calls the Heart ~ Hearts in Question ~ Day Three

Greetings everyone! Welcome to day three of this supercalifragilisticexpialidocious party!! :D 

Today I have another episode review for y'all, this time of one of my favorite season three episode-- Hearts in Question! :) 

~ Synopsis 

Jack welcomes an unexpected visit from his mother Charlotte, while Elizabeth struggles to find common ground with her; Abigail and Frank make their courtship official; Rosemary begins planning her dream wedding to Lee. After a landslide puts one of Hope Valley's own in grave danger, the strength of a town is tested.

(On individual episodes, this would be Hearts in Question and Prayers from the Heart.) 

~ My Thoughts 

Again, I'm breaking it up into like sub-categories. Also, major spoilers if you haven't see ALL of season three. XD 

Charlotte   Yup, Jack's mother. Honestly, I did not know WHAT to think of her at first. As I mentioned Monday, when she first showed up in town I thought she was a highwayman that was going to like kill Jack or something (and THAT would've been awful). By the end of the episode, I was okay with her. She's still not what I was expecting as Jack's schoolteacher, raised-two-boys-on-her-own mother. But her and Elizabeth's discussion of "unmentionables" is golden. :P 

Rosemary and Lee   So, these two are finally making wedding plans, yayyyyy!! (I mean, Jack is obviously in no hurry for such things, but I don't mind settling for Lee and Rosemary. ;)) This part with Rosemary wanting this and that...catering, name cards, and music... Poor Lee. :P 

THIS PART!! Gahh, I love this part. <3 <3 Lee and Rosemary are meeting with Preacher Frank to discuss the wedding at whatnot. They're saying how they 'agree on everything' and want the same things. Which leads a slight disagreement about children and two of my favorite Rosemary quotes. ^.^ 

"Children are so...sticky."   and    "And Lee, do you know what's in those diapers." 

*beams* Next segment... 

Henry and Nora   This picture cracks me because it's obviously not while shooting and Gowen's face... *dies* Okay, so this isn't exactly it's own plotline, as they've been a thing for a little while by this episode, but when Henry suddenly decides to skip town. Under the cover of darkness. And they wreck. And Bill finds them. 

And then the season ends and we don't even know what happens!! *dies* O.o  

Settlers and Mine Diaster   There are a lot of new settlers in the valley, and Elizabeth and the schoolchildren have been making friends with them. But then word comes to town that there's been a disaster at the silver mine where a lot of the men from the settlers camp work. A group of rescuers from Hope Valley set out with loaded wagons to help. 

While carrying news from the mine back to town, Jesse realizes that there's a jam of logs in the river which, with the rising water, is about to give way. He rushes to tell everyone in town, which is mostly women. They take off to the settlement of new settlers, who would be flooded out if/when the jam gives way. 

Jack   Most nerve-wracking part of the show... After finding out that a little girl from the settlement is missing, Jack shows up just in time to go after her -- sending everyone else back to Hope Valley. Like, I seriously feel like I watched that in slow motion the first time. I'm over here like OHMYGOODNESS. *complete silence* And then Mom "what just happened?" 

So yes. Very dramatic. :D I LOVE the emotions when the little girl tells Elizabeth and Lee "the water took him away." Awwww! :'( <3 

After Elizabeth and the guys find Lee, time passes and the townsfolk hold a prayer vigil for their favorite Mountie. (Okay, okay. Everyone's favorite Mountie xD) 

<3 So yeah. I can't find a decent picture of how that ends, but I believe y'all know. ;) 

Wedding   Yes, I knoooww. After all the turmoil of the show, it has to have a sweet ending. ^_^ *throws out a handful of wedding pictures* 

Of course Elizabeth caught the bouquet... :)

When Calls the Heart ~ Second Chances ~ Day Two

Good morning everyone! Welcome back to day two of the When Calls the Heart blog party!! :D Click here for yesterday's ramble-filled post with the party tag and all the details on how to participate.

Today I'll be sharing a review sort of post of one of my favorite When Calls the Heart episodes – Second Chances, from season one. (On individual episodes, this would be Second Chances and Peril of the Soloists.) Lots of spoilers so if, for some absurd reason, you haven't seen this, I don't suggest reading further. xD  

~ Synopsis 

Abigail is encouraged to reopen Coal Valley's dilapidated and abandoned cafe and make it her own after Elizabeth raves about Abigail's baking. Jack accidentally insults Elizabeth as he fumbles to confess his feelings for her. One of Elizabeth's students has trouble reading so she enlists Jack's help for a creative solution.

Elizabeth and Abigail move into rooms above Abigail's cafe. The only surviving miner from the explosion comes home from the hospital with a shocking surprise. Elizabeth and her students must put on the Coal Valley Founders' Day play on short notice.

~ My Thoughts 

This is one of my favorite episodes, because... It just has SO much good stuff in it (including oodles of Jack and Elizabeth adorableness <3). I've tried to break it up by each thing that happens so that this flows fairly smoothly. And I'll try to refrain from too many rabbit trails. *ahem* 

Abigail   I really loved Abigail's part in this show. How she lays aside her grief over her husband and son, and makes the decision to step out on her own. She's so bold when she goes to Gowen with her proposition, and doesn't back down or entirely give into his demands. 

The opening on Abigail's Café gave way to a lot of possibilities in the plot of the show. I was glad that Elizaveth moved to the rooms above the café with Abigail. And of course, now that she lives in the heart of town, a certain Mountie isn't so far away. *cough* 

I was left snickering over the part where Jack asks Abigail for advice concerning Elizabeth. The whole 'bear', 'fox', and 'deer' story...did he really think she wouldn't see right through that?! :P 

Jack and Elizabeth  Considering how Jack and Elizabeth's relationship was going at the end of the previous episode (The Dance), it was fun to see how they gained back what they had before. Elizabeth is a bit hurt by Jack's protectiveness, but he's really just looking out for her. 

*sigh* Yes, I know, so sweet. <3 And then...along comes the intelligence test and Elizabeth takes Jack up on his offer. I believe it can be said that their relationship is definitely on the mend by this point in the show. 

I just love this exchange. *grins* So, yes, Elizabeth grills Jack through the test, which even includes him paying her a compliment. The first being some remark about her teaching skills -- and then after asking to change his answer which Elizabeth reluctantly allows -- he says she looks "really beautiful tonight." Awww, yes, I totally ship them. <3 <3 

This paarrrtttttt. <3 So yeah. After Elizbeth gives Jack the intelligence test (he passed, in case you had doubts), he decides to 'return the favor'. I loved the part where Jack is holding her test results above his head, Elizabeth tries to grab them, and then the realize everyone is watching them. *grins* 

Bo   What was the point of the intelligence test, you ask? Well, you see Elizabeth had this student who was having difficulties learning to read. After some research, she decided the intelligence test was a good route to take to determine the reason why Bo was having trouble, so she could better help him. (She's such a dear. :)) She gave the test to Guinea Pig Jack first in the saloon, and later to Bo. And...he aced it. 

So how come he scored so high on the test, but can't read simple sentences? I wondered the same thing, and I'm pretty sure Bo's father did too. (Who, for the record, I did not like at all until the end. But back to the show...)  

As the test determines, Bo is suffering from dyslexia. With Elizabeth's special tutoring (and Abigail's cookies...hehe), he is soon reading and learning and *nods*. It's all so lovely. ^.^

Adam Miller   If you're like me, then this is what you think of first when you think of this episode. However, since he doesn't actually come home until later in the episode, I decided to hold it off until here. So yeah...the only miner who survives the mine disaster (which is excruciatingly sad in itself, when you think about it. 

I just loved this storyline with Adam returning home to a different sort of life with his wife, and their sweet daughters who really don't understand what's going on. (They were just so cute. ^_^) This even brought out a hint of compassion in Henry Gowen...very faint, but it was there briefly. ;) 

Just LOOK!! They're so cute!! :D I was so happy with how this part of the show wrapped-up, with Adam returning home to his family (after a long mostly-one-sided conversation with Jack to help him put things in perspective). The ending was so sweet with Adam and the oldest of the girls. <3 

Founders' Day   Now for the last thing I have to ramble about, hehe. The Founders' Day play, although thrown together at the last minute, was successful. But it wouldn't have been complete without a backdrop...painted by a mysterious do-gooder. (Pfft. As if we don't know who it was.) When Elizabeth confronted Jack about it... *laughs* I wonder if she ever did figure that out... ;)

When Calls the Heart ~ Blog Party ~ Day One

*comes in bouncing excitedly with lots of coffee and bagels and happiness* 

Good morning, everyone!!! :D *passes out bagels and coffee* Assuming you haven't already seen the title...and the graphic...and there's no way you could've already heard because this has been kept under-wraps... WELCOME TO THE WHEN CALLS THE HEART BLOG PARTY!!!! :D :D 

Sometime around the first of the year, I suggested this party to my friend, Rebekah. Being the lovely gal who convinced me to watch this show (yes, she's to blame for my latest obsession *ahem*), she was insanely for it. And what better time to have such a party, we decided, than the week of Valentine's Day?! :D This may or may not have something to with me re-watching the entire series and scouring Pinterest and Google for WCTH images. *grins* 

Anywho... Rebekah and I will each have a post every day this week, so be sure to hang around. ;)

1. What's your favorite season of When Calls the Heart? 

Ahh, so hard. I really loved season one (gotta love the beginnings, huh? ;)), and season three was fabulous. Season two wasn't my favorite, but it still had some good stuff. So, I don't know. Season one, I guess. ;) 

2. Who is your favorite character and why? 

*whispers* Rebekah, why did we make these so hard? 

Jack, Elizabeth, Lee, Rosemary, Abigail... Goodness, I even love the minor characters! For the sake of time, let's just say Rosemary and move on.. ;) 

3. Who is your least favorite character and why?

*begins making a list* Nora, Gowen, Dottie, Charles, Faith (in season two, I liked her more in season 3)... Okay, okay. I'll stop. Nora is probably the worst in my humble opinion. The way she treated Abigail when she first made in appearance on the show... *shakes head* 

4. When did you first start watching When Calls the Heart?

Sometime in September of 2016. :) I had heard a lot about the show and so when I saw the first three episodes were on CBD for a couple bucks, I grabbed them. Pretty sure they were $6.99 only because they know you will HAVE TO have more. ;) So yeah. Now I've watched most of the episodes like 3+ times. :P 

5. Do you have a favorite couple from the show? If so, who and why are they your favorites?

I have a TON!! I mean, the entire show is like one big relationship that has a ton of problems. *laughs* And yet it's just so lovable. :D 

Jack and Elizabeth, obviously. Like when he teaches her to ride a horse...or in the mine with Rip...or when Jack has to go and try to die and Elizabeth goes to find him. <3 <3 <3 

I also really liked Bill and Abigail...while they lasted. But, well, y'all know how that ended. *makes face* (But it was STILL cute and sweet when he bought Gowen's share of the café <3) 

Lee and Rosemary... Need I say more?! They are so. darn. cute. <33 <3 I am expecting lots of loveliness with them on season 4... (Hear that, Hallmark?) 

6. Do you have a favorite quote from the show?

*grins* Oh, yes. So many. Here's one of my top favorites... 

Because Rosemary is golden. <3 

7. What are your thoughts on Rosemary LeVeaux? Did you like her right away or did she grow on you? 

I definitely did not like her right away. I'm over here all "eww, who is this red-wearing creep? Get your hands off Jack, woman." But yeah, she grew on me sooo much. :) Her and Lee are practically the cutest thing that ever happened AND her humor is superb. ^_^ 

(As my little bro put it when I was reading these questions out loud... "I loved her from the beginning. She's awesome." XD) 

8. Have you read the When Calls the Heart book series? 

Nope! But I recently got the first book in the series and so I'm hoping to read it soon!! :D 

9. Was there anything in season 3 that surprised you? (characters, plots, etc…) 

*coughs* *sputters* *pulls out the list* Weellll... Definitely Bill and Dottie. Like woah. *staggers backwards* I did not see that coming. Maybe it's because I don't like Dottie (like, she worked for GOWEN. Bill, what are you THINKING??) that I find them a bit odd...I don't know. But that definitely surprised me. 

Let's see...what else... OH! Jesse and Frank and all that with the gang. *shakes head* I was suspicious of Frank from the start (Faith is still pouting about how Bill and Abigail were ripped apart so it makes perfect sense to blame Frank *nods), but I wasn't expecting ALL THAT. And now Clara and Jesse are a thing, and they're cute, but I still want to know what happened to that nice guy who took Clara to the ice cream social... *sigh* 

And then Jack's mom, Charlotte. Like, whaaa?? When Jack was going to answer the door, I'm like "noooo!! Take a gun!!" I just knew whoever it was was going to kill him. And then he's like "Mom?" I about died. "Jack, what?! I thought your mom was a schoolteacher not a highwayman!!" :P 

10. What do you foresee happening in season 4? (Be creative and as detailed as you look :)) 

Hehe, well, I asked these questions to my mom as I was working on them. She has some interesting speculations...but I'm not going to share all of them here. ;) My thoughts on the subject... 

-- Dearest Jack, do all our hearts a favor and give Elizabeth the ring. We know you still have it. (Unless you like, loaned it to Lee or something, but...) And then hurry up and MARRY her before some other dude shows up, unintentionally wrecking things! Signed, a loyal viewer 

-- Dearest Rosemary, change your mind about those sticky children with diapers. You and Lee would be AMAZING parents and it would be so darlingly adorable. Signed, a quoter of your goldeness 

-- Dearest Julie, please show up in Hope Valley. I'm beginning to think you took Tom hostage and headed off to some foreign continent like Antartica. I would not put it past you two to do something so impulsive and wreckless. Instead, you two should grow up, get married, and set up housekeeping in Hope Valley. Tom can work at the mill. And hopefully Jack and Elizabeth will need you two to be in their wedding soon. Signed, a concerned friend
