12 Days of Christmas // Give This Christmas Away

Welcome back to the party! :) Today I'm going to talk a little bit about a contemporary Christmas song that I really love. Probably my top favorite.

The song is Give This Christmas Away by Matthew West.

If you're familiar with the song, you're probably smiling right now (or I hope you are). If you haven't heard the song, then you might be trying to figure out just what the name of the song is trying to imply.

This is going to be pretty short, but I just want to share what this song and it's message mean to me.

What if I told you?
You have the power
To give someone hope
Far beyond their wildest dreams

Hope. We hear that a lot at Christmas, don't we? It's a lovely word and a lovely concept. But what do we mean when we say Christmas is the season of hope? To me, the hope of Christmas is salvation through Christ. The hope of eternal life with Him.

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;”   ~ Titus 2:13 KJV

Going back to the song, the lyrics speak of us having the power to share hope. Another line from the song says even when no one’s watching you... This Christmas, let's spread hope, His hope. Not for our glory, but for his.

What if December looked different this year?
What if we all just
Give this Christmas away
If there’s love in your heart
Don’t let it stay there

Love. That's what Christmas is all about, isn't it? God loved us so, so much that He sent His Son to this sin-sick world as a helpless baby. All out of His intense love for us. Who are we to keep their love for ourselves and not share it with the broken, hurting world all around us?

Give this Christmas away
And your life will be changed
By the gift you receive
When you give this Christmas away

Christmas – the spirit, the meaning, the message – is a beautiful, beautiful thing. So don't keep it all for your own pleasure. Don't hide it somewhere deep within yourself, where it's not profiting anyone.

The hope, the joy, the love. All of it.

Let's give this Christmas away...

  2. Love this song! It's one of my family's favorites. Matthew West is AMAZING!! <3 Such wonderful lyrics, so much meaning. It's crazy to think that we really do have the power to help people have hope this Christmas in a world without hope. We have the power, won't we just give it away? Delightful post, Faith!
